Southern Peach Cobbler is a classic, comforting dessert featuring sweet, juicy peaches baked under a golden, fluffy biscuit crust. Perfect for showcasing fresh peaches in a warm and satisfying treat.

  • 6 cups fresh peeled and sliced peaches
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, chilled and cut into pieces
  • 1/4 cup boiling water
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine peaches, 3/4 cup granulated sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Toss to coat and set aside.
  3. Pour the peach mixture into a 2-quart baking dish and bake for 10 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, in a bowl, mix flour, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Cut in the chilled butter with a pastry blender or fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Stir in boiling water just until mixture comes together to form a soft dough.
  7. Remove peaches from oven and drop spoonfuls of the biscuit dough evenly over the peaches.
  8. Sprinkle the top with 2 tablespoons granulated sugar.
  9. Bake until the cobbler topping is golden brown, about 25-30 minutes.
  10. Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with vanilla ice cream if desired.

Notes

For an extra touch, sprinkle a little freshly grated nutmeg on top before baking or serve with whipped cream for added richness.
