This Southern Georgia Style Peach Cobbler features juicy, ripe peaches baked under a golden, buttery biscuit crust, delivering a classic and comforting dessert perfect for warm days.

  • 6 cups peeled and sliced fresh peaches
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for topping)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup boiling water
  • Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine sliced peaches, 3/4 cup granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Toss to coat and set aside.
  3. Pour melted butter into a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix flour, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Stir in boiling water until just combined to form a batter.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of batter over the melted butter in the baking dish; do not stir.
  7. Pour the peach mixture evenly over the batter; do not stir.
  8. Bake in preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the cobbler crust is golden brown and the peach filling is bubbly.
  9. Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving.
  10. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if desired.

Notes

For an extra depth of flavor, try adding a splash of bourbon to the peach filling before baking.
