Sourdough Discard Brownies Recipe

Delightfully fudgy and rich brownies made using sourdough discard, offering a unique tang and moist texture perfect for a delicious dessert.

  • 1 cup sourdough discard (unfed)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix melted butter and sugar until well combined.
  3. Add eggs and vanilla extract; whisk until smooth.
  4. Stir in the sourdough discard until fully incorporated.
  5. Sift together cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder; gradually add to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  6. Fold in chocolate chips if using.
  7. Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with moist crumbs.
  9. Let brownies cool completely before cutting and serving.

For extra richness, sprinkle a pinch of sea salt on top before baking or serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
