Sourdough Cheez-It Crackers

Crunchy, tangy sourdough Cheez-It crackers made from wholesome ingredients, perfect for snacking or pairing with your favorite dips.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sourdough starter (discard)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 8 oz sharp cheddar cheese, finely grated
  • 4 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • Water, as needed (about 1-2 tablespoons)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, grated cheddar cheese, salt, and garlic powder.
  3. Add cold butter and use your fingers or a pastry cutter to work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the sourdough starter.
  5. Add water a little at a time if needed to bring the dough together into a smooth ball.
  6. Roll out the dough between two sheets of parchment paper until about 1/8-inch thick.
  7. Cut dough into 1.5-inch squares using a knife or pizza cutter.
  8. Transfer squares to a parchment-lined baking sheet, prick each with a fork to prevent puffing.
  9. Bake for 18-22 minutes or until golden and crisp.
  10. Cool completely on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, sprinkle a bit of smoked paprika or cayenne pepper on top before baking. Store crackers in an airtight container for up to one week.
