Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • Royal icing (for decorating): 3 cups powdered sugar, 2 tbsp meringue powder, 5-6 tbsp water, food coloring

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until combined.
  4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until the dough forms.
  5. Divide dough in half, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for at least 1 hour.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out dough on a floured surface to ¼-inch thickness.
  7. Use flower-shaped cookie cutters to cut out cookies and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are lightly golden; let cookies cool completely.
  9. Prepare royal icing by mixing powdered sugar, meringue powder, and water until smooth; divide and color as desired.
  10. Decorate cooled cookies with royal icing using piping bags and let them dry completely before serving or packaging.

Notes

For a softer cookie, slightly reduce baking time by 1-2 minutes. You can also use edible gold dust to add a shimmer effect to decorate flowers.
