  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee, warm
  • 3/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for frosting)
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • Graduation-themed sprinkles or edible decorations

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch sheet pan.
  2. In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk buttermilk, coffee, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until combined.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Fold in the sour cream until the batter is smooth.
  6. Pour batter into prepared sheet pan and spread evenly.
  7. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the cake cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
  9. For the frosting, beat softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder alternately with heavy cream, beating until smooth and fluffy.
  10. Spread frosting evenly over the cooled cake.
  11. Decorate with graduation-themed sprinkles or edible decorations.
  12. Slice and serve to celebrate your special occasion!
