garlic cottage cheese naan

Garlic cottage cheese naan is a soft, flavorful Indian flatbread stuffed with spiced ricotta-like cottage cheese and infused with fragrant garlic, perfect for pairing with curries or enjoying on its own.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cottage cheese (crumbled)
  • 2 cloves garlic (finely minced)
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro (optional)
  • Butter or ghee for brushing

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve sugar and yeast in warm water. Let it sit for 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
  3. Add yogurt, oil, and the yeast mixture into the flour. Mix and knead into a soft dough, adding water if needed.
  4. Cover the dough and let it rest for 1 hour in a warm place until it doubles in size.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix crumbled cottage cheese, minced garlic, and chopped cilantro (if using).
  6. Divide the dough into equal portions. Roll each portion into a small circle.
  7. Place a spoonful of the cottage cheese mixture in the center of each circle. Fold the edges over the filling and seal.
  8. Gently roll out each stuffed ball into a naan shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
  9. Heat a skillet or tawa over medium-high heat. Cook each naan for 2-3 minutes on one side until bubbles form, then flip and cook the other side until golden spots appear.
  10. Brush hot naan with butter or ghee and serve warm.

Notes

For extra flavor, add finely chopped green chilies to the cottage cheese filling or serve with a side of mint chutney.
