Classic Homemade Burgers

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 4 burger buns
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese (optional)
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Tomato slices
  • Onion slices
  • Ketchup and mustard, to taste
  • Pickles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat grill or skillet to medium-high heat.
  2. In a bowl, gently mix ground beef with salt, pepper, and garlic powder without overworking the meat.
  3. Divide mixture into 4 equal portions and form into patties about 3/4-inch thick.
  4. Place patties on the grill or skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes on one side.
  5. Flip patties and cook an additional 4 minutes for medium doneness; add cheese slices on top during last minute if desired.
  6. Toast burger buns lightly on the grill or skillet.
  7. Assemble burgers by layering lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles on the bottom bun, followed by the cooked patty, condiments, and the top bun.
  8. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

For extra flavor, try mixing a tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce into the ground beef before forming the patties.
