Cinnamon Sugar Bagels

Soft, chewy bagels coated in a sweet cinnamon sugar blend, perfect for a cozy breakfast or snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 4 cups bread flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tablespoon honey (for boiling water)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine bread flour, ¼ cup sugar, salt, and ground cinnamon.
  3. Add the yeast mixture to the flour mixture and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. Divide dough into 8 equal pieces, shape each into a ball, then poke a hole through the center to form bagels.
  7. In a large pot, bring water and honey to a boil. Reduce to a simmer.
  8. Boil bagels in batches for 1-2 minutes on each side, then remove and drain.
  9. Mix ½ cup sugar with additional cinnamon on a plate. While bagels are still wet, dip them into the cinnamon sugar to coat evenly.
  10. Place coated bagels on the baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, try brushing the bagels with melted butter right after baking and then dipping them in the cinnamon sugar mixture again.
