Churros with Chocolate Sauce

Delight in crispy, cinnamon-coated churros served with a rich, velvety chocolate sauce — a classic Mexican dessert perfect for any occasion.

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • Oil for frying (about 2 cups)
  • 1/2 cup sugar mixed with 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon for coating
  • For Chocolate Sauce: 100g dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine water, sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil; bring to a boil.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in flour until the mixture forms a ball.
  3. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large heavy skillet to 375°F (190°C).
  4. Place dough into a pastry bag fitted with a large star tip and pipe 4-inch strips into hot oil.
  5. Fry churros until golden brown, about 2 minutes per side, then drain on paper towels.
  6. Roll fried churros in cinnamon sugar coating while still warm.
  7. To make chocolate sauce, heat heavy cream and sugar until it begins to simmer.
  8. Pour hot cream over chopped dark chocolate; let sit for 2 minutes, then stir until smooth.
  9. Stir in vanilla extract and serve warm chocolate sauce alongside churros.

Notes

For extra indulgence, dust churros with powdered sugar or serve with a side of whipped cream.
