Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups sushi rice
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 sheets nori (seaweed)
  • 150g smoked salmon, thinly sliced
  • 1 ripe avocado, sliced
  • 1 cucumber, julienned
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon wasabi (optional)
  • Pickled ginger, for serving

Instructions

  1. Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. Combine the rice and water in a rice cooker or pot, cook until tender, and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  3. Mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved, then gently fold into the cooked rice. Let the rice cool to room temperature.
  4. Place a bamboo sushi mat on a flat surface and lay a sheet of nori shiny side down.
  5. Spread a thin, even layer of sushi rice over the nori, leaving a 1-inch border at the top edge.
  6. Arrange smoked salmon slices, avocado, and cucumber strips horizontally across the center of the rice.
  7. Carefully roll the sushi using the bamboo mat, pressing gently to shape the roll firmly.
  8. Using a sharp knife, slice the roll into 6-8 pieces.
  9. Serve with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger on the side.

Notes

For added crunch, sprinkle toasted sesame seeds inside the roll or on top before slicing.
