French Butter Cake

French Butter Cake is a rich, tender cake known for its buttery texture and delicate crumb, perfect for an elegant dessert or afternoon treat.

  • 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch (23cm) cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Alternate adding the dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. Stir in the vanilla extract gently.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  8. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Dust with powdered sugar before serving, if desired.

Notes

For an extra indulgent touch, serve with fresh berries and a dollop of whipped cream.
