Deliciously crispy tofu cubes glazed in a savory-sweet teriyaki sauce, perfect as a healthy snack or protein-packed addition to any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 14 oz firm tofu, pressed and cubed
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp mirin
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tsp toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds (optional)
  • 2 green onions, sliced (optional)

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu for at least 30 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut into 1-inch cubes.
  2. Toss the tofu cubes gently in cornstarch until evenly coated.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Add tofu cubes and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden and crispy. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, combine soy sauce, mirin, brown sugar, grated ginger, minced garlic, and toasted sesame oil. Bring mixture to a simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes until sauce slightly thickens.
  6. Return the crispy tofu to the skillet and toss to coat evenly with the teriyaki sauce.
  7. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and tofu to glaze.
  8. Remove from heat and garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

For extra crunch, bake the coated tofu cubes at 400°F (200°C) for 20 minutes instead of pan-frying. Serve with steamed rice and steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
