Classic Lasagna

Freshly prepared Classic Lasagna on a white plate

A hearty and comforting Italian classic featuring layers of rich meat sauce, creamy ricotta, and melted mozzarella baked to perfection.

  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente, drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, sauté until translucent.
  4. Add ground beef to the skillet, cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
  5. Stir in marinara sauce, dried basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  6. In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and half of the Parmesan cheese.
  7. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a baking dish.
  8. Layer 4 noodles over the sauce, then spread half of the ricotta mixture, followed by a third of the mozzarella and meat sauce. Repeat layers once.
  9. Top with remaining noodles, sauce, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese.
  10. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 25 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  11. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, add fresh basil between the layers or use a blend of ground beef and Italian sausage.
