Freshly prepared Chinese Steamed Cod Fish with Ginger Scallion Sauce

Delicate cod fillets steamed to perfection and topped with a fragrant ginger scallion sauce, this classic Chinese dish is light, flavorful, and perfect for a wholesome meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb cod fillets, skin removed
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Shaoxing wine (or dry sherry)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3 scallions, finely sliced
  • 2 inches fresh ginger, julienned
  • Salt, to taste
  • Fresh cilantro (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Rinse and pat dry the cod fillets. Lightly season with salt.
  2. Place the cod fillets on a heatproof plate suitable for steaming.
  3. In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, and sesame oil. Pour evenly over the fish.
  4. Set up a steamer and bring water to a boil. Place the plate with fish inside the steamer, cover, and steam for 8-10 minutes until the fish is just cooked through.
  5. While the fish is steaming, heat vegetable oil in a small pan over medium heat. Add the julienned ginger and sliced scallions and stir-fry for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant and scallions are slightly softened.
  6. Once the fish is done, carefully remove it from the steamer and pour the hot ginger scallion oil over the top.
  7. Garnish with fresh cilantro if desired and serve immediately with steamed rice.

Notes

For an extra flavor boost, add a splash of light soy sauce over the fish just before serving or serve alongside sautéed bok choy for a complete meal.
