chicken parmesan

Chicken Parmesan is a classic Italian-American dish featuring breaded chicken breasts topped with marinara sauce and melted cheese, baked to perfection for a crispy and flavorful experience.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup Italian seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil (optional)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Slice chicken breasts horizontally to create 4 thinner cutlets. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Dredge each cutlet in flour, shaking off excess.
  4. Dip each into beaten eggs, then coat with a mixture of breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese.
  5. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry chicken cutlets until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  6. Place fried chicken in a baking dish. Spoon marinara sauce over each cutlet.
  7. Top each with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  8. Bake in preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Garnish with fresh basil before serving, if desired.

Notes

Serve with spaghetti or a crisp green salad. For extra flavor, add a sprinkle of red pepper flakes to the marinara sauce.
