Butter Chicken is a rich and creamy Indian dish featuring tender chicken cooked in a spiced tomato and butter sauce, perfect for a comforting meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500g boneless chicken thighs, cut into pieces
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup tomato puree
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken with yogurt, lemon juice, half of the ginger-garlic paste, turmeric, chili powder, and salt. Let it rest for at least 1 hour.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a pan and cook the marinated chicken until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, add the remaining butter and sauté the remaining ginger-garlic paste until fragrant.
  4. Add tomato puree, cumin, garam masala, and salt. Cook the sauce on medium heat until oil separates from the mixture.
  5. Stir in the cream and simmer gently for 5 minutes.
  6. Add the cooked chicken to the sauce and cook for another 10 minutes, allowing flavors to blend well.
  7. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with naan or rice.

Notes

For a smoky flavor, try cooking the chicken over charcoal or use a smoky paprika in the sauce.
