Sugar Cookies

Classic sugar cookies that are soft, buttery, and perfectly sweet, ideal for any occasion or holiday celebration.

Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • Additional sugar for rolling

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth.
  4. Beat in egg and vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients, alternating with milk, until dough forms.
  6. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, then roll in sugar.
  7. Place on prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart and flatten slightly.
  8. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
  9. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

For an extra touch, decorate cooled cookies with colored icing or sprinkles before serving.
