Teriyaki Sauce

A rich and savory Teriyaki Sauce that perfectly balances sweet and umami flavors, ideal for glazing meats, drizzling over rice, or marinating vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons mirin (sweet rice wine)
  • 2 tablespoons sake
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons cold water (optional, for thickening)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine soy sauce, water, mirin, sake, brown sugar, ginger, and garlic.
  2. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar.
  3. Reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
  4. If you prefer a thicker sauce, stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook for another 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  5. Remove from heat and let the sauce cool slightly before using.

Notes

For an extra depth of flavor, try adding a splash of toasted sesame oil or a pinch of red pepper flakes before serving.
