Applesauce Cake is a moist and flavorful dessert cake made with cinnamon-spiced applesauce and warm spices, perfect for cozy gatherings and seasonal treats.

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • ½ cup raisins (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch square baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Mix in the applesauce until combined.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just incorporated.
  7. Fold in walnuts and raisins if using.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  9. Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  10. Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely before serving.

Notes

For extra moisture and flavor, serve the cake with a dollop of whipped cream or cream cheese frosting.
